The night that Kimmye met Matt, she told her closest friends, “I am going to marry that man.” And last Saturday, she did just that, and now, the man that she said she would marry one day is her husband! Kimmye and Matt celebrated their gorgeous wedding at Mountain Memories by ThorpeWood, an absolutely incredible mountain venue with the most beautiful lakeside ceremony site (complete with willow trees!). I was so excited to celebrate with Kimmye and Matt because I have known Kimmye since we were in middle school! It was so special to be part of the planning this past year and a half, and I was so honored to be able to capture all of the special moments throughout their wedding day and celebrate with these two are they said “I do.”
Kimmye is extremely organized, but throughout the day, she was incredibly calm and relaxed. We started at the Hampton Inn in Frederick, where Kimmye and her bridal party were getting ready in beautiful monogramed silk robes. Afterward, everyone headed to ThorpeWood to get ready bridal party and groomsmen pictures, and then to get ready for the wedding ceremony!
As guests gathered at the ceremony site, my second shooter (and husband!), Justin, turned to me and whispered, “I am worried it is going to thunderstorm soon.” I laughed it off and told him it was a beautiful day out; the forecast called for clear, sunny skies, and it was hot and beautiful. About ten minutes later, though, the wind picked up, and I asked Justin to make a dash to our car for the clear umbrellas and rain bags (I am SO glad we bring those to every wedding!). Throughout the ceremony, the skies got a little darker, and after, as we headed to the other side of the beautiful lake for family portraits it started to rain – and then pour! Thankfully the bride and groom, the entire wedding party, and family were all able to fit inside the adorable lakeside cottage, and we waited out the storm until it cleared enough for family portraits. After about eight minutes of portraits, the skies opened up again – and this time it was here for a while.
To wait out the storm, Kimmye and Matt decided to head to cocktail hour, which was just down the road in a beautiful barn, but as we headed over there, we went through a tree grove and I realized that the rain was hardly coming through there. Yay! We jumped out and had a perfect little secret spot to do outdoor portraits in the rain! We were SO lucky! And what gorgeous portraits we got there too. These two are SO natural together; if ever the phrase “meant to be together” held true it is for Kimmye and Matt. They are truly meant to be together, and as they celebrated their marriage on Saturday, it was clear that they were so thankful to have one another and to share their lives together.
After portraits, everyone moved to the lodge at ThorpeWood for reception (with such lovely rustic décor touches!). The speeches by the best man and the maid and matron of honor were so touching and thoughtful; I was in the majority who were holding back or wiping away tears. These two are so loved, and it is clear that their lives have touched and impacted so many others in such special ways.
Kimmye and Matt’s son, Gavin, was so excited and joyful throughout the wedding. As his mother walked down the aisle, Gavin spotted her and went running toward her, arms outstretched (it was SO adorable!). During Matt and Kimmye’s first dance, he happily joined in, and throughout the night he had so much fun zipping in and out of the dance floor with his family and friends. The reception was so much fun, and it truly had something for everyone. The reception was on two levels of the lodge, and guests were able to move indoors for dancing, or outdoors to a large screened porch to relax or to the patio for the photo booth and campfire with s’mores bar (it was so fun!). Kimmye and Matt, your wedding was so incredible, and I am so happy for the two of you! Congratulations!!

Love this cool shot!
Kimmye, you are so gorgeous!
You can see the rain coming across the lake in the picture above this. We were so lucky to find this dry canopy-covered grove for portraits!
I love both of these so much!
While we waited out the rain, Kimmye and Matt shared a sweet kiss on the screened porch of the cabin. I love this candid moment!
Another favorite!
You two are so cute!
I used the leaves from a tree beside me to create a cool foreground in this shot!
