Katie and Ryan got married earlier this month and it was such a beautiful, special day! I have loved getting to know these two, and their wedding day was truly perfect in every way. Katie and Ryan have been together for twelve years, and they were so excited to celebrate their marriage to each other after so many years. In fact, Katie and Ryan started dating on October 23, 2004 – one week after Justin and I started dating! I think it is so cool that we both met our forever person just one week apart! After dating for many years, these two were so happy to say their vows to one another in a lovely little forest clearing at Dulany’s Overlook.
Katie and Ryan’s wedding looks like a styled shoot – everything is just perfect! Their details and decor are just so lovely – and these two are SUCH naturals in front of the camera! And I’m pretty sure that Katie and Ryan just always have amazing, golden light around them! Their engagement session was AMAZING; it was a perfect evening with just the most beautiful light (and such an incredible location – a private farm that Ryan works at!). And their wedding was just as perfect! This was such a beautiful day – not too hot and truly the most beautiful light! These two value portraits so much, and they made time for portraits after their first look and they stepped out of the reception to get some sunset portraits – and it was SO worth it! You have to see these gorgeous, glowing pictures during sunset! Somehow even in the middle of the day with the sun directly overhead we found great light too. It was just a perfect day! And Dulaney’s Overlook is an AMAZING backdrop to any wedding! Dulany’s Overlook just recently opened as a wedding venue, and it is incredible. The historic home that sits on the property is so beautifully restored, and the surrounding land makes for such beautiful portrait backdrops. The barn has been converted into a venue, and guests had so much fun checking out the photo booth in the lower level, playing cornhole in the yard, and dancing the night away inside of the barn.
The day started with some lovely getting ready photos in the historic home. Katie was so perfectly calm; she styled her own hair, put makeup on her mother, and helped her bridesmaids and flower girls get ready. Katie was so excited to celebrate, but she never once made the day about her – she was just so easy-going and she was having such a good time getting ready with her favorite people. Meanwhile, my second shooter, Sarah, photographed Ryan and his groomsmen, and then after some bridal party portraits and pictures of the groomsmen, it was time for the first look! Both Katie and Ryan are such easy-going and laid-back people, and they had fun with the photos (and seriously never once seemed stressed out or worried the entire day!). We did lots of lovely pictures of Katie and Ryan, first in the woods and then in this lovely little rose garden, and then it was ceremony time! Family portraits were a huge priority to these two, and we got SO many wonderful groupings during cocktail hour – and then these two started up their fun reception!
Not only was the reception such a fun celebration, but these two had so many personal elements. Katie is a dentist and she and her dad work at the same dental practice! How cool is that? It is clear that Katie is close to her family, and the father-daughter dance that these two shared was the most creative I have ever seen! These two danced through the ages with a variety of dances and songs and it was so much fun! I think everyone was laughing and smiling – which was the case with both Katie’s family and Ryan’s family! Both families were so filled with joy throughout the day – and it is clear that they were so happy to see these two tie the knot.
Katie and Ryan, it was such an incredible joy to be part of your day!! I am so happy for you two! I have loved getting to know you both so much!! Enjoy some favorites from your beautiful wedding. Congratulations!!
