Each year I volunteer with Howard County Animal Advocates to photograph dogs and their people at the annual Walk for Paws at Lake Elkhorn in Columbia, Maryland. I have to be honest – it is a LOT of work! I am photographing people and dogs for five hours non-stop, Justin prints all of the photos (I bring him my memory card after every two of three dogs), and we always have one or two volunteers to help greet people and keep the lining of waiting dogs happy :) There is about two or three full days of sorting and editing with that many photos, and then I share them on Facebook – and my blog totally gets neglected! So now I am sharing some favorites from the Walk for Paws this year.
I love being a part of this event. I attended the Walk for Paws for the first time in 2005; I had adopted a very special dog, Cara, about 1.5 years prior, and I had just fallen in love with dogs. I picked up a brochure for the Walk at the Howard County Library and decided to collect donations. I collected more than $400 going door-to-door, and I was so proud! I’ve gone to the Walk for Paws every year since then (expect for one year when the Walk landed on the date of the very first wedding I ever shot in 2012!). I met friends Stephanie, Cara, and Kim through the walk, and I’ve photographed all three of them now too! :)
Animal Advocates does so much for animals in Howard County, and the Walk for Paws is their primary fundraiser. If you’ve never been, definitely check it out – it is an outstanding event and so much fun!
Enjoy some highlights from the Walk this year!
